Today, U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas joined Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni to launch the national campaign to administer U.S.-donated Pfizer pediatric COVID-19 vaccines to Bangladeshi children ages 5-11. UNICEF Country Representative Sheldon Yett, and other Bangladeshi government officials and representatives of international organizations attended the special event, at which the first group of young Bangladeshis received their first shots.

The U.S. government donated another 1.5 million pediatric doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines to Bangladesh via COVAX to help the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare expand vaccination coverage to protect children ages 5-11 for the very first time.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Kathryn D. Stevens joined Secretary Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Director Barrister Shehrin Salam oishee, and leaders from global fashion company PVH to launch the new USAID Women Thrive in Bangladesh project to empower women ready-made garment factory workers.
