Over the past eleven months, the USAID-funded Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control project (EpiC) has worked alongside the Ministry of Health and provincial Departments of Health to install liquid oxygen systems in five provinces. The project reached a critical milestone this week as six facilities in three of these provinces began using their new 5-cubic-meter systems. These systems are compact and intended to meet the needs of district-level health facilities by providing them with convenient access to liquid oxygen refills. They include a tank with an integrated vaporizer, and are supplied on a metal pallet for easy installation. Despite supplier delays due to lockdowns and flooding in Malaysia, all six systems were installed as scheduled in July, and health department staff received onsite training on oxygen safety, operation, maintenance, and monitoring.

The newly-installed liquid oxygen systems improve critical patient care in these six health care facilities and will save lives.
