We bring you tidings from West Africa and updates on our recent activities. This month, we share highlights of our work with our partners to promote food security and sustainability; improve water quality, sanitation and hygiene; protect and preserve wildlife; improve power and energy systems; and advance women’s empowerment and business sustainability. Our partnerships help support conservation efforts, increase business opportunities and improve livelihoods.

Saly, Sénégal: Geospatial experts from West Africa (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal), Rwanda and the United States of America are meeting from August 29 to September 2 in Saly, Senegal to plan the implementation of the second phase of SERVIR West Africa. SERVIR West Africa is one of five regional hubs that connect space to the village by helping developing countries use satellite data to address critical challenges in agriculture and food security, water resources, weather and climate, land use, and disaster prevention or management.

SERVIR is a joint initiative of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and leading geospatial organizations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The first phase of its West Africa program was launched in 2016, and its second phase starting in 2022 will continue over the next five years in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, Mali and Senegal, as well as other West African countries

This August, we would like to showcase the work with our partners to preserve biodiversity, promote food security and sustainability, advance women’s empowerment, support the power and energy sector, and strengthen food security through increased availability of fertilizers and technical guidance for farmers. Our partnerships help support conservation efforts, further educational opportunities and improve livelihoods.
