Welcome to the USAID/West Africa Regional Health Office’s quarterly newsletter. ParlerHealth features activity updates, programmatic highlights, resources and announcements.
Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,
Natural resources are vital to our existence, and these resources need to be managed and conserved to serve their purpose. Failure to do so leads to catastrophic effects on wildlife and other resources, and other social and environmental effects. In this latest edition, we highlight our partnerships to preserve wildlife, empower women in West Africa, support the power and energy sector, promote food security, and improve the livelihoods of farmers. You can view this month’s edition on our website as well as stay abreast with other previous editions.
Enjoy, and continue to stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely, Rockfeler P. Herisse, Ph.D. Acting Director

Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,
Preserving biodiversity is vital in mitigating the impact of climate change, and beekeeping has been identified as an appropriate livelihood-focused intervention that protects the forest. It also provides honey, which is good for our health! In this latest edition we highlight our partnerships to preserve biodiversity, empower women in West Africa, support the power and energy sector, promote food security, and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
Enjoy, and continue to stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Michael W Nicholson
Acting Director

According to data released by the Cadre Harmonisé this month, the Sahel is facing one of the worst years of food insecurity in 15 years. But the causes of food insecurity are more complex today than they have been in the past with additional factors including increased political insecurity and extremist violence layering on top of climate shocks, which are in turn aggravated by the market and social disruptions of COVID 19, and further deepened by additional global disruptions resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Consequently, the importance of USAID’s work in the Sahel is as great today as it has ever been.
