The USAID/West Africa Regional Mission is pleased to announce its new partnership with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), who will implement the second phase of SERVIR West Africa 2 (SERVIR WA 2) over a five-year period.

SERVIR WA 2 connects “space to village” by helping West African countries use satellite data to address critical challenges in food security and agriculture, water and hydro-climatic disasters, weather and climate, land cover and land use change, and ecosystems services.  With ICRISAT and other regional and national leading organizations, USAID and NASA will continue to implement activities in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal, as well as opening up new activities in other West African countries.

In the heart of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, there is a village of 4,000 people surrounded by green open spaces, trimmed lush landscapes, a pharmacy, health center, and many other amenities that are not often found in a typical village. It is called Abobo-Baoulé and it’s quickly growing to be known as a place where everyone wants to live.

Claude Amondji, the chief of the village, has a vision. He wishes to maintain the positive reputation of Abobo-Baoulé, but also ensure that the village advances on a development path that is sustainable for future generations.

Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,

As we recognize March as Women's History month, we kick off this edition highlighting the achievements of female eco-guards serving as guardians of West Africa's most crucial landscapes. Additionally, we are pleased to share updates on activities across the sub-region that conserve biodiversity, promote WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene),  support the power and energy sector, and harness efforts that bolster agriculture, while improving the lives of farmers through increased productivity.

We hope you find this edition  helpful and informative.
