In the heart of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, there is a village of 4,000 people surrounded by green open spaces, trimmed lush landscapes, a pharmacy, health center, and many other amenities that are not often found in a typical village. It is called Abobo-Baoulé and it’s quickly growing to be known as a place where everyone wants to live.

Claude Amondji, the chief of the village, has a vision. He wishes to maintain the positive reputation of Abobo-Baoulé, but also ensure that the village advances on a development path that is sustainable for future generations.

April 1, 2022 – Today, the U.S. government announced its intent to partner with five Coastal West African countries (Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, and Togo) in the context of the ten-year U.S. Strategy to Prevent Conflict and Promote Stability.  In response to common issues raised in each of the five countries, this Strategy enables the United States to work collaboratively with governments and civil society on an integrated regional approach to prevent conflict, promote resilience and stability, and advance economic development.  It will build on historical U.S. ties and established relationships with Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, and Togo, and our desire to forge stronger connections toward shared goals.

Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,

As we recognize March as Women's History month, we kick off this edition highlighting the achievements of female eco-guards serving as guardians of West Africa's most crucial landscapes. Additionally, we are pleased to share updates on activities across the sub-region that conserve biodiversity, promote WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene),  support the power and energy sector, and harness efforts that bolster agriculture, while improving the lives of farmers through increased productivity.

We hope you find this edition  helpful and informative.
